Many of my hopes and dreams about getting outside and cycling this season have been crushed due to rolling my ankle at work back in September of last year. It happened the week before the Bike for Sight ride out in Montgomery and when I stepped off that gently sloping ramp and felt my ankle go the wrong way the first thing I thought was, “Damn I won’t get to ride in my bike ride.” And I didn’t. My ankle has been giving me trouble all this time making me also miss another favorite ride called the Gator Ride out in Baytown.
Recently, I guess a couple of months ago now; I wanted to test to see how my ankle would do at the gym. I also see a trainer so I thought this would be a really good idea (silly me) to see how strong it would be. By the second time out my ankle was throbbing and hurt to turn in the direction of the sprain. Frustrated, I finally made an appointment a month later (yes I’m stubborn) to see the doctor when it hadn’t gotten better. I thought maybe it just needed to suck it up to strengthen. They sent me off to get an MRI and came back saying it was fine and released me. I guess it will always be messed up, because it isn’t totally fine, and I’ll have to deal with it. Not happy with that really.
Sadly though, this wasn’t the end of the bad cycling mojo. During that month of working out my other foot decided to start hurting. This time it’s not the ankle but the heel. It hurts to put pressure on it and found out later, when my theory about using an exercise machine where you don’t put pressure on the heal fell through, that the muscle where my arch is feels strained. With the Rolling Hills Challenge coming up in early may out on Columbus I’m getting worried that I won’t be able to make that ride this year either. Tomorrow I see a foot doctor so we can start to figure out just what is going on. I’m tired of this and getting pretty sad. I love to ride and get allot of my inspiration for writing while out on the open road.
Here’s to good luck. I want to hear that it will be fixed up in no time without any restrictions. But we shall see.
Bad Mojo Be Gone!
