After seeing my foot doctor today the results are in. The good news is that I can ride my bike. I asked the doc and explained this is a road bike with clip in pedals to make sure she understood that this isn’t a comfy cruiser bike and she was still fine with it. YAY! The bad news is I have Pantar Faciitis. In English this means that the broad ligament that runs from the ball of the foot through the arch and attaches to the bottom of the heel is inflamed.
The treatment includes stretching exercises three times a day, shockwave therapy twice a week (boss said this was painful- thanks boss), some restrictions like no treadmill but I can do biking and elliptical and training without lunges, and a mean nasty shot in my foot right where it hurts most. This was done today. She said it didn’t hurt at all. LIAR. I love her but… LIAR. My eyes teared up from the pain of the shot and then for hours after the shot I had to try to keep breathing from the pain when I had to get up and walk on it. Oh and put my foot on a frozen water bottle at night, which I’m doing right now. It actually feels good.
Did I forget I had to buy new shoes? Yep shoes with a firm middle for exercise, and work and lounging. I bought my workout shoes today. $140 (gulp) Going to buy my work shoes tomorrow (don’t really want t know how much that’s going to run me) and already had my lounging flops. My Crocs. My husband makes fun of me for paying more for my Crocs every other year but now I can say, “See they really are quality flops. My foot doctor recommended them. We can’t argue with her.”
But the good news is I can start training for the Rolling Hills Challenge ride. I only have six weeks to get ready so that will be a challenge. I haven’t been able to train at all this season due to my other foot. My sister wants to make a go of it too. I’m going to start by trying to ride our 4 mile loop in the neighborhood in the morning to see how it goes. The shot spot may hurt too much but I won’t know unless I get up on the bike. If I think things are promising I’ll put up some more information on this ride. I don’t think I took video of this one in years past and if I didn’t I’ll do it this year. I have a cool bike cam.
