Rise Rises Again
Finally the stress that has been keeping my creative mind captive has released enough so that I can think about my book again, Rise of the Winged Assassin. I’ve been working on a project at work and was super stressed about it. I have the Sharepoint site installed and now I will be working on the design and moving data this week but the major pressure is off my chest.
I found a lady who is interested in doing the editing for me. I hope to meet with her this week so we can talk about cost. I’ve edited my book a ton but I want it to be super clean. Finding a traditional agent hasn’t been working out for me so I’ve been considering self publishing. Sure I will try again to hook an agent’s interest after I get it all super clean and rewrite my summary and query letter. What’s intriguing is that most of the books I’ve been tearing through at lightning speed have been self published books. Sure some aren’t well edited but the stories I’ve been reading won’t show up on the shelves. Would you ever find novellas about a vampire detective? But doesn’t that sound interesting? It crosses genres and instead of a YA teenage vampire story the protagonist is a mother of two children. I just can’t get enough of these books and will likely cry when there are no more. This is just what I do every night before bed, read about Samantha Moon. You can find the first four here.
So self publishing doesn’t seem so bad really? I’m not sure mine would fit anywhere anyway. A woman of a winged warrior race who’s desperately trying to hide a disease, that if discovered, could lead to exile or death? She just wants to be accepted for who she is. The theme makes you think she’s a young adult struggling to find her place in the world. Maybe YA? Nope. She is about eighteen years old so this seems YA. But it has some dark content, none of the sexual type, she’s just living in a violent world. It might fit into an Epic Fantasy bracket but this is a fantasy story with no magic, no warlocks, no dragons. I have tried to find like stories so that I can say in my query, “If you like this book, BOOK TITLE, then you will like mine.” But I can’t. And have I ever searched the book stores. Sure she has wings but they aren’t angels or even fallen angels. The closest they come is the fact that they have wings. So finding an agent has been difficult.
Even with all the rejections, I’m super excited to get back to editing and that I’ve found someone to help me with that. Let the editing begin!
