Miracles
Miracles and evidence of God’s love are everywhere if we only choose to see them. I’m so fortunate to attend a wonderful church where miracles aren’t so uncommon. We see people come to Christ just about every Sunday, and many times its people who felt a strong unexplained pull to try us out that particular Sunday. The message this past Sunday mixed honoring our Veterans and the price of living a Christ centered life.
Once a month we have baptisms and the end of the line, a man young man made his way to the pool with the help of a cane. He was wearing a Guinness T-shirt, shorts and a hat. Our church doesn’t care what we wear, within reason, they just care that you made it. I had never seen him before but I wasn’t surprised. Random people show up all the time and are saved by the time they leave.
Before the process started, Pastor Mike walked over to him and told us how he came to be with us. One of our church members saw him at the Mcdonalds down the road. He asked them where they went to church and asked him to come, as he was, and he did and sat with them. Before being baptized they are always asked why they want to be baptized and this man said he had been injured in Afghanistan and lost his faith. Just about half the room stood, giving him a standing ovation for both his service and his new commitment to Christ. What happened next threw out all of my emotional control that I try to master every Sunday but fail. He looked out to the crowd and saluted us. I lost it and began crying uncontrollably. After reading the story on our Church’s Facebook page I found out why he kept his hat on. He had been shot in the head.
He had given his life to protect our country and came back injured with his faith lost. I struggle with my faith all the time but to see him come back to Christ after all of that made me realize that even then most troubled can make it back to their loving and patient father.
