On January 15th of 2021 I turned 50 and had a great vacation weekend. We stayed at the Edelweiss house in the wonderfully, and sometimes scary, hill country town Wimberly Texas. We were supposed to go on a cruise for my birthday but with COVID-19 lurking about we had to think differently. Turning 50 bothered me two years before it happened but I think I’m over it. Great things will come this year and it will be better than last year. My book Rise of the Winged Assassin will be available in both paperback and digital format, and I plan to finish at the very least, the rough draft of book two.
I was away for a couple of weeks getting caught up at work and getting ready for my birthday weekend, but I’m back. This blog is about my trip with some pictures included of the house we rented, and a couple of wonderful restaurants we ate at. If you are in Texas, Wimberly is a great place to visit. If you are far away, it’s still a great place, but a bit farther to travel. If you are curious what the hill country of Texas looks like, this is the place to go.
The House
The Edelweiss house. We found this house on VRBO. It was my first time to use the rental site but had a great experience with it. If you are looking for a house that has lots of room where you can take your dogs I would recommend it. There is a large fence in the back yard, and very secure. If you like to have several cozy places to sit and relax this is the place. I counted 14 different places to sit and take a load off. We even saw deer. I’ve seen them before several times but it’s been a while living in the city. The owners of the house we fantastic and always right there if you need them. The pictures on the VBRO page does better justice of how gorgeous this house is.
My sister traveled to Wimberly with me and once we arrive in the cute little town we stopped at The Leaning Pear for lunch. All the seating was on their outdoor patio. It was a tiny bit chilly but they had the heating towers close by. I rarely get to eat meatloaf because most of my family doesn’t like it, so I naturally chose that. My sister had the Clucker, a chicken sandwich. I’ve been here before, and in the spring when everything is green, the view even better than the winter.
For my birthday dinner we went to Grape Creek Vineyards in Fredericksburg Texas. We’ve been to Fredericksburg sever times and visited many of the vineyards in the area but Grape Creek is my favorite. They now have a restaurant on site named STOUT’S SIGNATURE AT GRAPE CREEK Both my husband and I had the Scallop Risotto. They were really tender and very rich.
